Circle Domes

Location:  Utah, Escalante-Grand Staircase National Monument
Size: 11.25" x 15.5"

I found this location only 1/2 hour from my car and had the location to myself, as I painted the entire piece plein air over a two-day period. The shifting morning shadows and brilliant colors of the mineralized earth on the eastern flank of the Circle Cliffs were incredibly complex. I could just imagine the falling rocks, cracked off the two peaks and the incredible life force required for plants to regenerate in the barren soil below.
